Day trips
The railway runs both ways out of Yilan. Hualien is the easy one, about an hour south. The coast to the north is the day for walkers, over the old trail through the hills.
Pick the one that starts from your end of the county: Luodong or Su'ao New Station for Hualien, Toucheng or Jiaoxi for the coast.
Yes. Fast trains take about an hour from Yilan Station and less from Luodong, NT$314 from Yilan or NT$288 from Luodong one way, and the last fast train back leaves Hualien at 21:53 on weekdays. Book ahead at weekends.
The coast north of Toucheng: Dali Tiangong Temple and the Caoling Historic Trail, the silvergrass trail over the hills, with Fulong beyond. Check the trail's status first: it closed after a typhoon in October 2026.
